Voters move for preliminary injunction to allow for Chicago school board election on April 4, 2017

On November 30, 2016, the firm filed motions for preliminary injunctions in both federal and state court asking the courts to require the state to begin drafting procedures to allow for Chicago voters to elect their school board on April 4, 2017 at the same time as the rest of the state.

Despres, Schwartz & Geoghegan, Ltd. represents a group of voters that have filed these suits challenging the constitutionality of the State law that allows every other school district in Illinois to elect their board and denies the right to vote only to those living in Chicago. In the briefs posted below, the voters note that these questions present a number of pure legal questions that can be resolved quickly and request that the Court provide the relief necessary to ensure that Chicago can hold its election in April.
