Cultivating DSG’s Long Legacy of Supporting Workers and Union Democracy

Despres, Schwartz, and Geoghegan, Ltd., is pleased to announce that Will Bloom has been named a Shareholder in the firm. “Will’s outstanding work demonstrates his commitment to helping our clients build worker power, union democracy, and a strong labor movement,” said Shareholder Thomas Geoghegan. “We are thrilled to bring him on as a Shareholder and trust that he will help steward our work for many years to come.”

Will has worked as an attorney at DSG since 2019. His practice has included representation of workers, unions, workers centers, and union reform caucuses. He has been at the forefront of the firm’s union democracy work, guiding reformers through successful structural and political transformations of their unions, including assisting newly elected slates during their transitions into leadership. While providing general counsel, Will has guided unions through a wide variety of challenges, from constitutional reform efforts to contract bargaining to the day-to-day administrative difficulties that come with running an organization.

Will has also represented clients in state and federal courts, in arbitration, and before administrative agencies. He has litigated wage-theft suits, has combatted unlawfully implemented trusteeships, and has been a leading force in the firm’s First Amendment practice in support of public-sector workers, including winning a reversal of summary judgment from the First Circuit in a case involving a rank-and-file union president.

Prior to joining DSG, Will worked as a Skadden Fellow at the Community Activism Law Alliance (now Beyond Legal Aid) using litigation and settlement agreements to help worker centers to win lasting job protections for their members. He graduated from Yale Law School in 2017. He is on the Board of Directors of the Association for Union Democracy and conducts workshops and trainings for various organizations including Labor Notes, Unite All Workers for Democracy, and Teamsters for a Democratic Union.

Despres, Schwartz, and Geoghegan, Ltd., is a historic general litigation firm based in Chicago. Since its founding in 1934, DSG has played a key role in advancing social justice and securing the rights of workers in Chicago and across the United States.
